A serious error has been reported in the electoral roll released in Nagpur district after the SIR. According to the complaint, one voter's EPIC number and his father's name have been entered in another voter's record. Several errors, such as wrong names and wrong fathers' names, have surfaced in Nagpur district during the SIR, but this case is described as different from those.

The case relates to the polling station at Priyadarshini Nagpur Public School, Old Bagadganj, Room No. 5, in East Nagpur. Sanjay Sharma, 57, son of Radheshyam Sharma, a voter at this station, said his EPIC number is YGR 6300453. His part number and part name are 276-Old Bagadganj, and his serial number in the part is 257. According to Sharma, his own record is correct.

The problem lies in the record of another voter at the same station, Sunil Ishwar Tembhre, whose serial number is 164. According to the complaint, Tembhre's father's name has been changed to "Radheshyam Sharma", who is in fact Sanjay Sharma's father. Not only that, Tembhre has been given Sanjay's EPIC number, YGR 6300453, itself.

Sanjay Sharma said: "It means that, because of the gross negligence of the BLO, my EPIC number has been given to Tembhre and my father's name has been written in place of his father's name."

Sharma said he has been repeatedly phoning the BLO to find out about the errors, but the phone is switched off. He also said that District Election Officer Kumar Ashirwad had directed BLOs to discharge their responsibility with full seriousness, but here the BLO has switched off the phone. The distressed voter appealed: "Take away my voter ID if you must, but do not take away someone's father."

The complainant said the district administration may claim that BLOs did their duty by going door to door, but the claim is hollow. According to him, no BLO reached the homes of most voters. During the process, matters were turned upside down: instead of BLOs coming to voters, it was aware voters who were seen looking for the BLOs. The ridiculous and serious errors in the list now released are causing mental distress to aware voters.

Sharma asked whom people should approach to correct such serious errors. He said voters are having to go through the correction process again for the BLOs' mistakes. Time is being wasted and mental distress has to be borne on top of it. He has demanded action as per rules against such negligent BLOs.
