MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar has demanded that a CCTV surveillance system be installed in Ballarpur city. He has requested Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to grant technical approval for it and make the necessary funds available.
In view of the demand, the Chief Minister has directed the Additional Chief Secretary (Home) to take action. Mungantiwar raised the issue so that the city's residents can move about fearlessly in a safe environment and the police can effectively control crime. He says the system is necessary to curb rising crime.
The proposal calls for modern cameras at the city's main intersections, markets, sensitive locations and entry and exit routes. Mungantiwar has drawn the Chief Minister's attention to the fact that Ballarpur is an important city from the industrial and commercial point of view. According to him, the aim of the system is to prevent serious crimes, keep watch on suspicious activity and use modern technology in police investigations. He has also stressed the need for immediate steps to further strengthen the city's security arrangements.
The Superintendent of Police, Chandrapur, has sent a detailed proposal on the matter to the Home department. The proposed system includes high-capacity CCTV cameras, a modern control room, recording and storage arrangements, networking, and facilities for uninterrupted power supply.
According to the proposal, the system would allow effective monitoring of suspicious activity, provide video evidence for investigating crimes and help strengthen law and order in the city. It also says that once the proposal receives technical approval and the necessary funds are available, citizens' sense of security will be strengthened further, alongside effective control of crime.
It is not yet known whether the project has received final approval or funds.
