Nagpur: Man, 20, absconding after 17-year-old girl alleges sexual abuse at cafe

Police have booked a 20-year-old under the POCSO Act on a complaint by a minor in Nandanvan, and the cafe operator is being questioned.

A case of sexual abuse of a 17-year-old minor has come to light in the Nandanvan police station area of Nagpur. The girl alleges that a 20-year-old man took advantage of their acquaintance, took her to a cafe and forced himself on her. The complaint also says he then threatened her that there would be dire consequences if she told anyone.

According to police sources, the accused is Sameer Shaikh (20), a resident of the Sakkardara area. He had come to know the girl through a friend of hers. It is alleged that on July 29, 2026, Shaikh took the girl to the F Zone cafe in the Nandanvan area and forced himself on her there. Police said that after the incident the accused also threatened to kill her and to make her face serious consequences.

Frightened by the threat, the girl stayed silent for some time. On October 4, the accused came to her house. He is alleged to have pressured her there to take a test with a pregnancy kit. After this, the girl gathered courage and told her father everything.

On learning of it, the family approached Nandanvan police station with the help of a social organisation. On the girl's complaint, police have registered a case against Shaikh under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and other serious sections. Nandanvan police are investigating further.

Police said Shaikh has been absconding since the case was registered and is being searched for. There is no information so far of his arrest. Meanwhile, the operator of the F Zone cafe, where the incident is alleged to have taken place, is also being questioned. Police are also examining whether the cafe gave minor boys and girls private space in this manner, and whether the cafe operator had any role in the case.
