Youth, 20, booked for rape of 17-year-old girl at Nandanvan cafe in Nagpur; search on

Nandanvan police have booked a 20-year-old man under rape provisions and the POCSO Act on a minor's complaint; he has not been arrested.

A case of alleged rape of a 17-year-old minor has come to light in the Nandanvan police station area of Nagpur. On the minor's complaint, police have registered a case against a 20-year-old man. He is alleged to have lured her and had sex with her against her will, and to have threatened her with serious consequences if she told anyone. Police are searching for him.

According to police, the accused is Sameer Sheikh, a resident of Sakkardara. The complainant came to know him through a friend. He is alleged to have built up the friendship by saying he liked her.

According to the complaint, on July 29, 2026, the accused had sex with the minor without her consent at F Zone Cafe in the Nandan premises. The complaint also says she was then threatened that the consequences would be bad if she told anyone about the incident.

Because of the threat, the minor initially told no one. She later alleged that Sameer kept harassing her. She then told her father everything. The family subsequently approached an organisation working for social security and welfare.

Police said that on October 4 the accused allegedly came to the minor's home and tried to pressure her into taking a test with a pregnancy kit. She then went to Nandanvan police station with her family and members of the NGO and filed the complaint.

On the basis of the complaint, Nandanvan police have booked the accused under the relevant sections on rape and under the POCSO Act. He has not yet been arrested. He is absconding and is being searched for.

As the incident is reported to have taken place at F Zone Cafe, questions are also being raised about the cafe's role. Police are also examining aspects connected with the cafe and the conditions there.
