Nagpur airport entry now needs no boarding pass scan under upgraded Digi Yatra
GMR Nagpur International Airport has upgraded its Digi Yatra system to single-step face recognition entry, doing away with boarding pass scans at the gate.
GMR Nagpur International Airport Limited has upgraded the Digi Yatra system at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Nagpur, to make passenger journeys smoother. According to information received, single step face recognition technology has now been successfully activated at all Digi Yatra enabled gates at the airport.
The aim of the new technology is to give passengers quick and seamless entry at the airport without any documents, without physical contact and without wasting time.
Under the system that was in place at Nagpur airport until now, passengers had to register on the Digi Yatra app and add their boarding pass to it. On reaching the airport, passengers first had to scan their boarding pass or QR code at the Digi Yatra gate, after which the camera installed there would recognise the passenger's face and only then would the gate open. In other words, passengers earlier had to go through two steps, first scanning and then face recognition.
Now, passengers need to register on the Digi Yatra app and share their boarding pass on the app. On reaching Nagpur airport, passengers will not need to scan their boarding pass at the gate at all. As soon as a passenger stands in front of the Digi Yatra gate, the camera will identify the passenger by face recognition alone and the e-gate will open automatically. This means the entire process will now be completed in a single step, through face recognition alone.
GMR Nagpur CEO Shrikant Bhandarkar said that making the passenger experience at Nagpur airport more pleasant and seamless is their priority, and that adding single step face recognition to the Digi Yatra system is an important step in that direction.
Bhandarkar further said that by reducing human intervention and simplifying the verification process, they are committed to giving passengers a highly efficient, secure and contactless travel experience.
With this upgrade, the step of scanning the boarding pass at the gate will be eliminated entirely, which will greatly reduce queues and waiting time at the entry gates. Passengers will not need to repeatedly hold their phone or ticket to the gate scanner or show documents. This will save passengers time in reaching the security check area from the airport entrance.
