The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) held a campaign rally in Sangli ahead of the Pune graduates and teachers constituency elections. The rally resolved to ensure the victory of Harshada Deshmukh-Jadhav, candidate for the graduates constituency, and Jayant Asgaonkar, candidate for the teachers constituency.
NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) leader Jayant Patil, Congress leader Vishwajeet Kadam and MP Vishal Patil were the chief guests. Office-bearers and workers of the Congress, the Nationalist Congress Party, the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) and other constituents of the alliance attended in large numbers.
Jayant Patil said office-bearers and workers of all the alliance partners should share responsibilities and campaign in a united manner. He said this was a chance to choose capable leadership for the issues of graduates and teachers. The Pune graduates constituency election was extremely important, he said. Graduates needed a suitable platform to raise their unrest and their problems, Patil said.
Patil said Deshmukh-Jadhav was a worker who worked among the people, while Asgaonkar had always raised teachers' issues effectively in the Legislative Council.
Congress leader Vishwajeet Kadam referred to the protest by MPSC students and their unrest. He demanded transparency in examinations. Citing the drought situation in the state, Kadam said farmers' water problems and development needed equal justice, without discrimination against any region.
Harshada Deshmukh-Jadhav said today's Gen Z and the coming new generation were more aware. If the issues of their education, employment and future were not resolved in time, this generation would not stop short of taking to the streets, she said. She also said the MVA's aim was to empower graduates and teachers.
Speaking of her ties with Sangli, Deshmukh-Jadhav made an emotional appeal. She said: "I received my lesson in bringing rural and urban areas together from Sangli itself. My maternal home is Lengare in Sangli district, and my childhood was spent in this soil. So I am Sangli's granddaughter and niece. Give your blessings to this granddaughter and niece."
Saying Sangli was her maternal home, she sought the blessings of those present at the rally. The MVA has thus begun its campaign for the Pune graduates and teachers constituency elections.
