Musheer Khan hit a hundred and then took six wickets against Haryana in the Ranji Trophy, a feat last achieved for Mumbai by Ravi Shastri in 1990.

Hardly anyone in Mumbai cricket does not know the name Naushad Khan. People know him as the father and coach of two sons, Sarfaraz Khan and Musheer Khan. Naushad Khan's own dream of playing for Team India was not fulfilled, but he did not give up. He saw that dream in his elder son Sarfaraz, and Sarfaraz made it come true.

Now the younger son, Musheer Khan, is on the same path. Playing for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy, he recently broke a 35-year-old record. In the match against Haryana he first scored a century and then took 6 wickets while bowling. He is the sixth Mumbai player to do so. Scoring a hundred and taking more than five wickets in the same Ranji match is not easy. Ravi Shastri had done it in 1990, which means Musheer has now matched that feat after 35 years. He is now knocking on the doors of Team India.

Meanwhile, a training video of Naushad Khan is going viral. In it he is seen teaching his son Musheer how to bat. He says, "When you play a medium pacer, he is a side-arm bowler... When the ball comes from a side-arm, you must take your position much earlier. That gives you extra time. You cannot go on the front foot here. Against a medium pacer you only have to turn the wrist." It sounds simple, but the video shows how many years of hard work lie behind it. A father is explaining every small detail to his son.

Naushad Khan trained both sons at Azad Maidan in Mumbai. Rain or shine, he made them practise every day with strict discipline. He went through hard days when there was nothing to eat or drink, yet the father did not give up.

When Sarfaraz received his India Test cap for the first time, Naushad Khan, standing on the ground, wept. There were tears in his eyes, and they were not only of joy but of years of hard work.

Today Sarfaraz is in Team India and Musheer is dominating the Ranji Trophy. But the real man standing behind both is Naushad Khan. The father who took his sons on Mumbai's local trains and threw balls to them all day has truly won today.
