Monsoon withdraws from Maharashtra; Nandurbar hits 38.8 C, heatwave alert for Konkan districts
The monsoon has withdrawn from the rest of Maharashtra, while Nandurbar recorded the region's highest maximum of 38.8 C and heatwave conditions are forecast for several Konkan districts.

Conditions have become favourable for the withdrawal of the monsoon, or the south-west monsoon winds, from the state. According to the India Meteorological Department, the monsoon withdrew from the remaining parts of Maharashtra on October 8, 2026. It has also withdrawn from some parts of Goa, Karnataka, Telangana and Odisha, and has departed from some more areas of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.
The department said the northern limit of the monsoon's withdrawal is currently passing through 27.5 degrees north and 86.5 degrees east, Supaul, Ranchi, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Vijapur, Hyderabad, Belgaum, Panaji, and 15 degrees north and 72 degrees east. Conditions are becoming fully favourable for its further withdrawal from several parts of east India, the northern peninsula and north-east India over the next three to four days.
Meanwhile, the south-west monsoon winds have weakened over Konkan-Goa, central Maharashtra, Marathwada and Gujarat. Scattered rain was recorded at a few places in south Konkan-Goa. The weather remained mostly dry in the rest of Maharashtra.
There was no major change in the state's maximum temperatures on Wednesday. Even so, maximum temperatures were considerably above normal in south Konkan-Goa, central Maharashtra and Marathwada. Temperatures were also above normal in north Konkan and south Gujarat, and near normal elsewhere. Minimum temperatures showed no significant change and were normal everywhere. Nandurbar recorded a maximum of 38.8 degrees Celsius, the highest in the region.
According to the department's forecast, heatwave conditions have set in at a few places in the districts of south Konkan. The districts of north Konkan are experiencing hot and humid weather.
For October 9, the effect of heatwave conditions and hot, humid weather is forecast in Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts. Hot and humid conditions are likely to persist in Thane, Raigad and Ratnagiri.
On October 10, the sky is very likely to be partly cloudy in south Konkan-Goa and south central Maharashtra. Mostly clear skies are very likely in the districts of north Konkan, north central Maharashtra and Marathwada. Thane, Raigad and Ratnagiri will have hot and humid weather that day.
On October 11, mostly clear skies are very likely in the districts of Konkan-Goa, north central Maharashtra and Marathwada. The forecast for October 12 is the same, with mostly clear weather in the districts of Konkan-Goa, north central Maharashtra and Marathwada.
