MHADA Nagpur says the chief minister has approved the project on Umred Road, with Rs 145 crore of the Rs 180 crore land price still to be paid.
A textile park and a commercial complex are planned on 19 acres of land at Harpurnagar on Umred Road in Nagpur, next to Nirmal Nagari. The site will also be developed as a sports city. Homes and commercial buildings for weavers and workers will be built there as well.
The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) is taking the project forward. Several important meetings have been held on it in recent days, and MHADA has stepped up the pace of work.
MHADA Nagpur says Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has approved the project. The proposal is not new. According to MHADA Nagpur, it was prepared as far back as 2016, but the transfer of the land remained stuck and the project could not move ahead.
On the money, approval has been given for the 19 acres to be transferred for Rs 180 crore. MHADA paid Rs 35 crore of this in 2016, which means Rs 145 crore is still due from MHADA.
MHADA officials said the authority is ready to pay the amount. All the land transfer formalities will be completed soon, and MHADA will start work on the project as soon as the land is in hand. It is expected that the project will further strengthen the fast-growing infrastructure of Nagpur city.
Dr Vijay Ingole, chief officer of MHADA Nagpur, said: "The proposal to transfer 19 acres of land for the textile park complex at Harpurnagar is expected to move forward soon, and approval has been received for it. MHADA has made preparations to pay the outstanding amount. There will be residential and commercial facilities here for weavers and workers."
Meanwhile, work is also under way on a textile park being built on 1 acre on Subhash Road. On the demand of cloth traders and the local weavers' association, MHADA has set a target of completing it by March 2028. According to Dr Ingole, the Subhash Road textile park will be completed in March 2028.
According to MHADA, the Subhash Road building will have 13 floors and cost Rs 650 crore. About 600 shops for weavers will be built in it.
