A major fire broke out on Sunday morning at a warehouse of plastic sacks in the small factory area on Old Bhandara Road in Nagpur. News of the blaze caused panic in the area. No one was killed, and there is no report of anyone being injured.
The fire brigade received the call at 7.36 am and a team set out for the spot immediately. Seeing the scale of the fire, a total of 10 fire engines were sent to the site one after another. About two dozen fire officials and personnel worked to bring it under control.
According to available information, the warehouse is in the Vardhamannagar area on Old Bhandara Road, behind the Harihar temple. A factory making plastic material also operates there. On Sunday morning, smoke was first seen coming out of the warehouse, and the fire soon flared up. As the warehouse was full of plastic material, the fire spread very fast and engulfed the entire warehouse within minutes.
The fire was not easy for firefighters to handle. Because the burning material was plastic, they had to struggle hard to contain the flames. The flammable plastic kept catching fire again and again, making it difficult to put out the blaze completely. After hours of effort, the fire brigade brought the fire under control. The sustained action also curbed its spread.
The fire was so fierce that panic spread in the area. A huge plume of black smoke covered the sky and could be seen from several kilometres away. Eyewitnesses at the spot quickly informed the fire brigade. Given the seriousness of the fire, 10 fire engines were rushed to the site.
