Mercedes-Benz has launched the locally made GLC 400 4Matic electric SUV at Rs 78.50 lakh (ex-showroom), with deliveries to begin in mid-November 2026.

Mercedes-Benz has made a big move in the luxury electric car market, launching its new GLC 400 4Matic electric SUV in India. It is priced at Rs 78.50 lakh (ex-showroom). The company said deliveries will begin in the middle of November 2026.

Production of the SUV has begun at the company's Chakan plant in Pune. It is the company's first electric car built on the MB.EA-M platform to be made in India. After the Bremen plant in Germany, Pune is the second place in the world where this new electric SUV is produced.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Sunetra Pawar and Mercedes-Benz Group chairman Ola Kallenius were among the senior officials present at the start of production. On the company's flexible production line, petrol, diesel and electric cars can be built on the same line.

The car comes with the Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS). This is the first time the technology is being offered in Mercedes-Benz cars made in India.

On power and range, the GLC 400 Electric has a 94 kWh battery pack and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup. The SUV produces 489 hp of power and 800 Nm of torque. It takes only 4.3 seconds to go from 0 to 100 kmph, and its top speed is 210 kmph.

On the WLTP cycle, the electric SUV has a range of up to 711 km on a single charge. It has an 800V electrical architecture, which supports 330 kW DC fast charging. This charges the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in just 22 minutes. Features include a 39.1-inch MBUX screen, air suspension and rear-wheel steering.

The company also has good news on bookings. More than 1,000 bookings have been received for the GLC 400 Electric. The company said the SUV is sold out until March 2027.

On investment, the company said that in 2026 it made an additional investment of Rs 200 crore in India for production, new cars and digitisation. With this, its total investment in India has reached Rs 3,200 crore.

Buyers of electric cars will now get MB.Charge public charging credit from the company instead of a free AC wall box.
