Maruti Suzuki is preparing its first 7-seater electric MPV, its second EV after the e-Vitara, likely to be unveiled at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in February 2027.

Maruti Suzuki, one of the country's leading carmakers, is preparing to launch its first 7-seater electric MPV. The car arrives as demand for electric vehicles (EVs) in India rises by the day. It is expected to add to the difficulties of popular models from other companies.

According to available information, this will be Maruti's second electric car. The company has already launched the electric SUV e-Vitara. The new electric MPV is likely to be formally unveiled at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in February 2027. Rahul Bharti, the company's Chief Investor Relations Officer, mentioned the upcoming plan on its earnings conference call for financial year 2027.

The 7-seater has been given the codename Maruti YMC and has been under testing for the past few months. On design, it may get a horizontal strip for connected tail lights, which will probably be illuminated. It will also have an LED high-mounted stop lamp and a shark fin antenna.

The side profile of the car is boxy, so it looks more like a powerful SUV than an MPV. It is likely to get squared-off wheel arches and 18-inch alloy wheels. Its front and side look will be largely similar to the Maruti e-Vitara. The company may launch it in both 6-seater and 7-seater options. The 6-seater model is said to get captain seats in the second row for passenger comfort.

On power, the electric car may have two motor options. There will be a single-motor version powering the front wheels. The base variant's motor will produce 105.8 kW of power and 193 Nm of torque, while the top variant's motor will deliver 128 kW of power and 193 Nm of torque. Two battery pack options are also likely, and the top variant could offer a driving range of up to 525 km on a single charge.

On competition, Maruti's new electric 7-seater MPV will go head to head with the upcoming Kia Carens Clavis EV. It will also pose a stiff challenge to powerful electric vehicles such as the Mahindra XEV 9S and the MG Hector Tomahawk EV. The new Maruti EV is set to make competition in India's EV segment even sharper.
