Nagpur: The Crime Branch Unit-4 has arrested a man on the charge of firing a pistol in the air from a moving car at Hasanbagh Chowk, under the Nandanvan police station limits, to create terror. The accused has been identified as Roshan Ashok Mohite, alias Gotya. He was picked up from Wani and then handed over to the Nandanvan police for further investigation.

According to the police, the incident took place at about 1.30 am on Wednesday night. Abid Khan Mohammad Khan, a resident of Hasanbagh, was returning home on his two-wheeler at the time. He is said to have seen a car coming towards him as he took a turn near DL Motors under the flyover at Hasanbagh Chowk.

The police said a man in the car allegedly put his hand out of the window and fired one round in the air from a pistol. The driver then sped away.

The sudden sound of gunfire spread panic in the area. Khan then rushed to the police. On his complaint, the Nandanvan police registered a case and began an investigation.

During the investigation, the police found that the car suspected to have been used in the incident was linked to Mohite. The investigating team began tracing the accused by checking CCTV footage from the spot and the surrounding area. Finally, a team of Crime Branch Unit-4 tracked down Mohite in Wani and arrested him.

Dispute suspected behind the firing

The police's preliminary questioning has revealed that about two months ago, Mohite allegedly had a dispute with a man named Siraj in the Hasanbagh area.

According to the police, Mohite is said to have come to Hasanbagh looking for Siraj. When he could not find him, the investigating team suspects, he fired in the air to threaten people and create an atmosphere of fear in the area.

The police are now investigating the circumstances in which the firing took place and its exact motive.

The investigating team is trying to recover the pistol allegedly used in the firing. The police are also checking whether anyone else was in the car with Mohite and, if so, what their role was. The Nandanvan police are carrying out further investigation into the case.
