The state government will appoint eligible contract employees of the National Health Mission with 10 or more years of service to supernumerary posts, as a one-time measure.
Chandrapur: The Maharashtra government has decided to create supernumerary posts for employees of the National Health Mission (NHM) and appoint them to those posts. Contract employees who have served 10 years or more in the mission will benefit. The step is being taken as a one-time special measure, and the appointments will be in an equivalent pay scale.
The government has taken what has been described as a historic decision for eligible contract employees working under the mission across the state. The employees, who had been struggling for their rights for several years, have received major relief, and their service has gained stability.
MP Pratibha Dhanorkar pursued the issue persistently, her office said. She had raised the question forcefully, first as an MLA and then after becoming an MP. She drew the government's attention by using Assembly sessions, starred questions and other parliamentary and statutory means. She did not stop at making the demand but carried the campaign forward by holding repeated meetings at the government level and pursuing the matter through statutory channels. The government has approved the decision after these efforts.
The eligibility condition is also clear. Eligible contract employees who have completed 10 years or more of service, excluding the technical cadre, as of June 25, 2026, will be entitled to the benefit.
Keeping the employees' interests in mind, their current pay has been fully protected. Dearness allowance and travel allowance will continue along with basic pay, as before.
The maximum age of service for employees on supernumerary posts has been fixed at 58 years. The post will exist only as long as the employee concerned remains in service, and will lapse automatically once the employee retires.
There is a mood of joy among NHM employees across the state over this decision, which they called unprecedented and just. All of them have sincerely thanked MP Pratibha Dhanorkar. According to them, the difficult question was resolved only because of her long efforts.
