Maha Navami, also called Durga Navami, holds a special place in the Shardiya Navratri festival. On this day, Goddess Siddhidatri, the ninth form of Adishakti, is worshipped according to ritual. According to religious belief, Goddess Siddhidatri grants all kinds of siddhis to her beloved devotees. The goddess is seated on a lotus and her vehicle is the lion.

In 2026, however, devotees across the country appear somewhat confused over the exact date of Navami. In some places Maha Navami is being observed on October 19, while some almanacs also show October 20.

Date: According to the almanac calculation, the Navami tithi of Ashwin Shukla Paksha will begin at 10.51 am on October 19, 2026. It will last until 12.50 pm on October 20. According to the Drik Panchang, the festival of Maha Navami will be observed on October 19. Special puja, havan and kanya pujan on Ashtami and Navami during Navratri carry great religious significance, so knowing the correct date is essential.

Puja timing: The auspicious time for worshipping Goddess Siddhidatri on Navami is given as 10.51 am to 5.48 pm on October 19. Havan and kanya pujan are performed after these rituals, as per tradition. The fast is broken after all the traditional rituals are completed.

Havan timing: There is an old tradition of performing homa and havan on the Navami tithi of Navratri. It is believed that a havan performed according to ritual brings happiness, prosperity, peace and positive energy to the home.

Havan on October 19: The auspicious time for havan on this day is from 10.51 am to 5.48 pm.

Havan on October 20: On this day, the havan can be completed between 6.25 am and 12.50 pm.
