A social media creator in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, paid dearly for sharing his address online at Diwali, and had to appeal directly to people in a video. Followers of Veermani decided to prank him, and expensive goods soon began arriving at his home.
Veermani has a sizeable fan following. He thought he would ask his followers for some affection and sweets this Diwali, and for that he shared his phone number and home address online. Once the address was out, some followers sent expensive goods to his home instead of sweets.
The real trouble was that the items were ordered with payment on cash on delivery (COD). Whenever a parcel reached the door, the delivery agent asked Veermani for the money. Costly items such as a television, a fridge and a washing machine began arriving. The goods are said to be worth about Rs 1.69 lakh in all.
As the parcels kept coming, Veermani was thoroughly distressed, and the situation had slipped out of his hands. He finally posted a new video on social media in which he is seen folding his hands and pleading with users.
He said, "Brothers, why are you doing this? The delivery people are coming from very far. I do not have enough money to pay all of them... Please, stop this."
Even so, some mischievous users did not stop placing wrong orders. Veermani then announced that, to save his life and find some peace, he would have to leave the city.
