Krafton renames BGMI Lite as BGMI Air, says over 1 crore have pre-registered

Krafton India, the company behind BGMI, has decided to rename its new BGMI Lite. The game will now be known as BGMI Air. The company announced the change on October 15, 2026.

According to the company, more than 1 crore people in India have already pre-registered for the new game. An open beta is also expected to begin soon. The company has not yet given a launch date.

Players whose phones hang or heat up while running BGMI, or who cannot play it at all because of low storage, may find the new game useful. The company says it has taken the step so that the BGMI gaming experience reaches as many users as possible. A new version of the game is being prepared so that users of smartphones with limited storage can also play BGMI.

Krafton had earlier introduced the game as BGMI Lite. The company's aim is to bring the main BGMI experience to as many people as possible with a lighter download. The rename does not mean all the game's features will change. For now, the company has only announced the new name and plans to bring the game out as a lighter version. The game's full features, graphics and the necessary phone requirements have not yet been shared.

The biggest highlight of BGMI Air is its small download size. The initial download will be about 1GB. The update should benefit those with limited phone storage or those who do not want to download very large games.

One point to note: an initial download of about 1GB does not mean the game will take up only that much space once installed. Other game data and updates may require more storage. The company has not yet said clearly how much space will be needed in total after all modes and files are downloaded.
