Kawasaki has launched its new Z300 streetfighter bike in India. It is priced at Rs 3.24 lakh, ex-showroom. It is currently the cheapest bike in the company's Z-series in India. The bike will be available in a single standard variant, with two colour options: Candy Lime Green/Ebony and Metallic Carbon Grey/Ebony.
The bike is drawing attention for its sporty look, twin-cylinder engine and a relatively upright riding position for everyday use.
The Z300 has a 296 cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine. It produces 39.4 bhp at 11,000 rpm and 26.3 Nm of torque at 10,000 rpm. It comes with a 6-speed gearbox and a slip-and-assist clutch, and also features dual-throttle valve technology. The engine delivers its maximum power at high rpm, so the setup matters for those who prefer sporty riding.
The design carries a hint of Kawasaki's larger Z-series bikes. A sharp front headlamp, sculpted fuel tank extensions and an exposed engine design give it an aggressive streetfighter look. The seat height is 785 mm, which may make the bike easier to handle for many riders. The bike weighs 175 kg and has a ground clearance of 140 mm. The fuel tank capacity is 17 litres. Because of the single-piece handlebar, the rider sits in a more upright position than on the Ninja 300.
For suspension, there is a 37 mm telescopic fork at the front and a Uni-Trak monoshock at the rear. Braking is by 290 mm petal disc at the front and 220 mm at the rear. Dual-channel ABS is standard, and the bike runs on 17-inch alloy wheels. The instrument console has a reverse LCD display instead of a TFT, showing speed, engine rpm, fuel level, coolant temperature, odometer and trip meter.
Among rivals, the Z300 could compete with street bikes such as the KTM 390 Duke and TVS Apache RTR 310. Both of these have single-cylinder engines, while the Z300 has a twin-cylinder setup. The Kawasaki Ninja 300 costs Rs 3.34 lakh, ex-showroom, which makes the Z300 Rs 10,000 cheaper. It is a different option for those who prefer a naked streetfighter to a fully faired sports bike.
