The NTA says candidates without Aadhaar, PAN or a driving licence can use a passport as proof of identity, and those who erred can file a fresh form.

Registration is under way for the January session of the engineering entrance examination JEE Main 2027. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has given relief to students of Indian origin living abroad and other candidates. NRI and other candidates who do not have an Aadhaar card, PAN card or driving licence can now complete the form by submitting their passport as proof of identity.

The NTA clarified this on social media in reply to a question from an NRI student. The agency's move is a considerable relief for foreign and Indian candidates who have been facing trouble in registering because they lack identity documents.

According to the NTA's official instructions, logging in through the "Meri Pehchaan" portal has been made mandatory for JEE Main 2027 registration. Candidates can log in by choosing any one of three main platforms: DigiLocker, e-Pramaan or Jan Parichay. The agency has advised students to complete re-KYC through DigiLocker. The candidate's name and date of birth in the form must match exactly the details recorded in the Class 10 certificate.

In another notice, the NTA has given candidates a facility. If a student made a mistake or entered wrong information in a form filled earlier, the student can submit a fresh form. On submitting a new form, the student will get a new application number. However, the examination fee paid earlier will neither be refunded nor adjusted against the new form. For students who only need to make minor changes, a correction window will remain open from November 27 to 29, 2026.

The key dates for Session 1 of JEE Main 2027 are as follows. The last date to fill a new form without a late fee is November 22, 2026. With a late fee, the form can be filled from November 23 to 26, 2026. The period for corrections in the form is November 27 to 29, 2026. The examination will be held between January 20 and 28, 2027.

The NTA has given NRI candidates specific advice to carefully check the name and other details on their passport against their Class 10 marksheet while filling the form, so that no problem arises at the time of the examination. For any technical difficulty related to filling the form or the passport, candidates can get in touch through the official website jeemain.nta.nic.in. They can also call the NTA helpline at 011-40759000 or 011-69227700.
