The Indian electric two-wheeler market is changing constantly, and Japanese companies have now reached an important milestone in it. The combined sales of electric scooters from three Japanese makers, Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha, have crossed 10,000 units for the first time in 2026.
According to data on the Vahan portal, the three companies together sold a total of 10,735 electric scooters between January 1 and October 8, 2026. Their share of the Indian electric two-wheeler market is still limited, but the performance has drawn attention to their growing presence.
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India leads the three. The company sold 5,536 electric scooters in 2026 up to October 8, which is more than 51 per cent of the combined sales of the three Japanese companies. In September, Honda crossed the 1,000-unit sales mark for the first time. The company recently introduced its third electric scooter, the QC3, and sales are expected to get a further boost.
Suzuki is second on the list. Suzuki Motorcycle India launched the e-Access electric scooter in the Indian market in January 2026. The company has recorded sales of 4,133 units up to October 8. Suzuki accounts for nearly 39 per cent of the combined sales of the three Japanese companies.
Yamaha, on the other hand, entered the segment with the EC-06 electric scooter about two months after Suzuki. As a result, 2026 has become an important year for all three Japanese companies being active in the Indian electric scooter market.
Although the 10,000-unit mark is significant, the Japanese companies' share is still small compared with the entire Indian electric two-wheeler market. Between January 1 and October 8, 2026, a total of 16.1 lakh electric two-wheelers were sold in India. Of these, the combined sales of Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha accounted for only 0.66 per cent.
In the coming period, new models, the expansion of charging facilities and growing awareness of electric vehicles could be important for these companies. But to increase their share in the Indian market, they will have to reach more customers.
