The Bombay High Court on Thursday heard the bail plea of dismissed Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Waze for about three hours. During the hearing, the court put direct questions to the investigating agency and the police administration about Waze's assets and his expensive cars. The plea was heard by a Bench of Justice Girish Kulkarni and Justice Dr Neela Gokhale.

The court rose after three hours of hearing in the morning session. The bail plea will be heard again in the afternoon session, and attention now turns to the stance the court takes next. The issue of the expensive cars Waze used came up during the hearing, and Justice Kulkarni questioned his use of a Mercedes.

Justice Kulkarni asked: "He came in a Mercedes. Where did all this come from? He used a Mercedes. Has this come on your record? A Mercedes in the name of an API?" The Solicitor General replied that a Mercedes was indeed registered in the name of an API. He also said that even the Police Commissioner does not own a Mercedes.

Justice Kulkarni then said: "An API owning a Mercedes should be a matter of concern and seriousness for the Police Commissioner." The court also referred to a witness statement, according to which Waze used to arrive at the Mumbai Police Commissioner's office in a Mercedes through another gate. It was also stated in court that from there he would go straight to the 'Varsha' bungalow.

The court also asked about Waze's government income. The hearing was told that his present monthly salary is about Rs 90,000. Justice Gokhale then read out in court a list of the expensive cars owned and used by Waze. It was stated in court that Waze has five expensive cars, including a BMW and a Mercedes.

The court asked how a police officer with a limited government income came to have such expensive cars. As a result, Waze's assets and cars remained at the centre of the entire hearing. All eyes are now on the next hearing on the bail plea in the afternoon session.
