Australia's fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has made history on South African soil. On the final day of the first Test in Durban, his bowling wrecked the South African batting line-up.

The match was played at Kingsmead in Durban from October 9 to 13 and was the first Test of the series. Australia, led by Pat Cummins, won by 214 runs. Australia had set South Africa a target of 421 runs. In reply, South Africa were bowled out for just 206 in the second innings.

Hazlewood had taken two wickets in the first innings. In the second he dismissed six South African batters and bowled the home side out almost single-handedly. He bowled 16.5 overs in the second innings and conceded only 49 runs. His role in Australia's win was crucial.

With the six second-innings wickets, Hazlewood reached 311 wickets in Test cricket. In doing so he broke the record of Australian great Brett Lee, who took 310 Test wickets for Australia. Lee played 76 Tests for Australia between 1999 and 2008, while Hazlewood has so far taken 311 wickets in 79 Tests.

The feat moves Hazlewood to eighth place on the list of Australia's leading Test wicket-takers. He is now eyeing Mitchell Johnson, who took 313 wickets in 73 Tests between 2007 and 2015. If Hazlewood takes three wickets in the next two Tests against South Africa, he will pass Johnson and move to seventh.

Australia's leading Test wicket-takers are: Shane Warne 708, Nathan Lyon 573, Glenn McGrath 563, Mitchell Starc 448, Dennis Lillee 355, Pat Cummins 326, Mitchell Johnson 313, Josh Hazlewood 311 and Brett Lee 310.
