Gadchandur residents from six localities seek roads, drains, water and power from civic body
Residents of Hafiz Nagar and five other areas have objected to a ruling against civic works on land bought on stamp paper, and set a seven-day deadline.
Residents of several parts of Gadchandur have submitted a memorandum to the municipal council administration demanding basic amenities. Citizens of Hafiz Nagar, Meshram Nagar, Madavi Nagar, Parkhi Nagar, Babar Nagar and the Laxmi Talkies area have asked for roads, drains, water and electricity. Many of them have lived in these areas for 25 to 30 years.
The memorandum cites a special meeting of the municipal council held on June 25, 2026. According to the minutes, the chief officer has decided that development works such as roads, drains, electricity and water supply cannot be carried out on land bought on a Rs 100 stamp paper or on unauthorised land. The residents have strongly objected to this stand of the administration.
People are also angry that the council president and the ruling group have remained completely silent on the chief officer's position. Residents have expressed sharp displeasure at the silence of the elected representatives.
The memorandum also says that works worth about Rs 70 lakh, on roads and water pipelines, have already been carried out in Hafiz Nagar and Madavi Nagar. Notably, these works were sanctioned by the present chief officer, who also paid the work orders and bills. The residents ask directly: if those works were done according to rules, why is the administration now refusing new ones?
The main demand in the memorandum is that basic amenities be provided, as per rules and without prejudice, in all localities in the municipal council area. It also asks the administration to find a satisfactory solution within the next seven days and give a written explanation.
BJP city president Arvind Dohe and group leader Satish Betawar have given a clear warning that if no solution is found within the stipulated time or no written clarification is given, they will approach the District Collector (Chandrapur) and the Divisional Commissioner (Nagpur). They said a intense agitation would also be launched if necessary.
A large number of local residents were present when the memorandum was submitted, including Sheetal Dhote, Kirti Vairagade, Sangita Gautre, Kishor More, Shakir Mohammad, Ramesh Chudri, Bablu Rasekar, Ganesh Ade, Kittu Jaiswal, Sachin Mali, Jayanta Bhongle, Vitthal Dhade, Vicky Urkude, Mohan Rathod, Diwakar Dhanwalkar, Sachin Chure, Ganpat Burtakar and Vivek Bhedolkar. The whole town is now watching what stand the municipal council administration takes.
