The murder of a woman whose body was found buried on the boundary of Jivachiwadi and Chikhalbeed in Kaij taluka has finally been solved. Police investigation has found that the son of the woman's partner killed her with the help of his friends. Police have registered a case against four people and arrested them.
The deceased has been identified as Shahabai Baburao Chaure, 40, a resident of Tukuchiwadi. Her maternal home is in Shirur. About 17 years ago, she was married to Baburao Chaure of Tukuchiwadi, but for the past seven years she had not been living with her husband. She was living as a wife with Bal Chaure of Jivachiwadi.
Two weeks ago, unknown persons killed her and buried the body within the limits of Jivachiwadi Chikhalbeed (Wadwani taluka). The matter came to light on October 12, when wild animals dug the body out. On receiving the information, police reached the spot and took the body into their custody.
Wadwani police, Kaij police and the Local Crime Branch conducted a parallel investigation. Two suspects were initially taken into custody. Intensive questioning then brought out the names of the actual accused.
Police have registered a case at Wadwani police station against Navnath Vilas Chaure, Govind Balkishan Chaure, Tukaram Babasaheb Chaure and Vishal Jadhavar. All four have been arrested.
The investigation also found that, to destroy evidence after the murder, the accused kept the body hidden in chaff for a day. The next day they put it in a sack and buried it at a secluded spot. Because of haste and fear, the pit was not dug deep. Within a few days the body decomposed and its stench spread. The smell drew wild animals to the spot, which dug up and dragged away the body, and the murder came to light.
