Purushottam Hazare alleges that women workers at Susbeed company in Wathoda are searched by male guards and that meal breaks were cut to 10 minutes.

Nagpur: Serious allegations have been made about women workers at Susbeed company in Wathoda, which was in the news over the death of a young worker. It is alleged that male security personnel behave improperly with women employees in the name of security checks while they enter and leave the company.

Former corporator Purushottam Hazare made the allegation public after speaking to women workers. According to Hazare, a large number of women work at the company. Employees are checked as per rules when entering and leaving, but women workers are alleged to be checked by male security personnel. Women are allegedly treated improperly in the name of this check. It is surprising that, despite so many women employees, the company management has not deployed women security personnel.

Hazare also accused the management of exploiting workers. He said employees were earlier given half an hour for meals, but this has allegedly been cut to just 10 minutes. Workers are pressed to eat in this limited time and return to work immediately. The former corporator also alleged that the minimum wages due to workers have been cut.

The alleged improper behaviour towards women employees, the cut in meal time and the wage complaints have raised questions about the company's functioning. Hazare warned that if the workers' problems are not resolved, they will take the path of agitation and strike.

The role of the police and the labour department will now be important. All eyes are on whether the women workers' allegations will be impartially investigated and action taken against those found guilty. Wathoda police said they have received no complaint so far and would act if one is received.
