A case of fake notes worth Rs 37 lakh being printed in a rented house has come to light in Nagpur's Wathoda area. Wathoda police have stepped up efforts to catch the absconding accused, Pushpam Krishna Bandane, and have formed three separate teams to search for him.
Police are now going through footage from CCTV cameras installed in surrounding areas. They are also trying to reach the accused with the help of technical surveillance.
The incident dates to October 24. The landlord had informed the police, and acting on that information, police raided House No. 18 in the Three Star Co-operative Society. During the search, they found printed paper resembling Rs 500 notes. Police also recovered a laptop, a colour printer, a paper cutter, ink and other material. The fake note printing racket in the area came to light after this action.
Police have also run into a major difficulty in the investigation. The CCTV cameras at the house where the accused was staying were found switched off. As a result, it is proving hard for police to gather information about his activities inside the house and his movements.
Police are therefore examining footage from CCTV cameras in neighbouring societies, on roads and at other locations. Efforts are also under way to establish the accused's likely location through technical surveillance.
Three separate teams have been formed to trace the accused under Senior Police Inspector Pramod Pore of Wathoda. Police are working to gather clues linked to his likely hideouts and his activities. Several technical aspects are also being examined as the investigation widens.
Catching the absconding accused in the case of printing fake notes worth Rs 37 lakh remains a major challenge for the police. Police hope that CCTV footage, technical investigation and the efforts of the teams will help trace him. The search is continuing.
