Nagpur: Armed attackers tried to kill a fish seller as he slept at home, leaving him critically injured before fleeing. The attackers also injured his elderly mother. The incident took place at Bhavani Chowk in Surendragarh, under Gittikhadan police station limits.
Yashwant Gaur works selling fish at Gittikhadan Chowk. As on any other day, he returned home from his shop, had dinner and went to sleep. At about 2.30 am, Gaur heard a knock at the door. His 65-year-old mother, Parvati Bai, went to see who it was and found two young men knocking at the door.
The two forced their way into the house. They dragged Yashwant, who was sleeping in a room, out by his hair and began beating him. The altercation quickly turned violent, and one of the men attacked Yashwant with a knife.
Seeing the attack, Parvati Bai came forward to intervene. The attackers beat her too, and she was injured. The sudden attack inside the house caused panic in the Gaur family. Meanwhile, Yashwant's wife woke up. She showed the attackers a stick and told them to leave the house. On seeing this, the attackers fled.
With the help of neighbours, family members took the injured mother and son to hospital. Yashwant is undergoing treatment. The midnight home invasion has spread fear in the area.
On receiving information, Gittikhadan police began an investigation. Footage from CCTV cameras in the area shows two suspected young men arriving and leaving on a two-wheeler. Police have identified them as Amol Palaspagar and Ravi Pandey. Police are searching for the suspects on the basis of the CCTV footage. The truth behind the attack can emerge only after they are caught.
