A 'film tourism' project will be developed on government land at Palshet in Guhagar taluka of Ratnagiri district to promote films and tourism. Cultural Affairs Minister Adv. Ashish Shelar has directed that a detailed proposal be prepared for this in joint partnership with the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC).

Shelar said that, so that the project can receive funds under the film tourism scheme, the help of MHADA should also be considered. He has asked for the entire proposal to be submitted within a month.

The meeting, chaired by Shelar at Mantralaya, was aimed at drawing up a government plan for film production using Palshet village and nearby locations in Guhagar taluka. At the meeting, former MLA Dr Vinay Natu made several suggestions on providing the facilities needed for film production in the Konkan.

Dr Natu had drawn the government's attention to the availability of about 125 acres of Tourism Department government land at Palshet. According to him, basic facilities should be developed on this land to promote tourism and the film industry. If the government builds a film city, jobs will be created on a large scale in the area. The meeting at Mantralaya was held in this connection.

Dr Natu said the scenic beaches and tourist spots of Guhagar and Dapoli talukas are suitable for film shoots. Many Marathi films and serials have been shot in the area. However, there are difficulties in getting the permissions and facilities needed for shoots on time. If all facilities are available at one place for shooting, film production will gain pace and local employment will also be created, he said.

He also suggested that the government lands at Palshet, Velneshwar and Tavsal in Guhagar taluka be used to develop the facilities needed for film production. The meeting discussed setting up facilities at these sites through public-private partnership (PPP).

Shelar directed at the meeting that the necessary planning be done to set up a film city through a joint venture with MTDC. He said various options for raising funds for the project should be examined and a detailed proposal submitted within a month.

Dr Vinay Natu joined the meeting by video conference. Cultural Affairs Department Secretary Dr Kiran Kulkarni, Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari Managing Director Swati Mhase-Patil, MHADA Vice-President Sanjeev Jaiswal, MTDC officials and officials of the departments concerned were also present.
