Representing the country at the recent Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games was a matter of great honour and pride for India's leading golfers Saptak Talwar, Veer Ahlawat and Yuvraj Sandhu. India's men's golf team did not win a medal at the Asian Games. Even so, the three gained the experience of playing under heavy pressure against the best golfers in Asia in Japan. Tom Kim eventually won gold in that event, and big names such as PGA Tour winner and former Indian Open champion Keita Nakajima were also in the field.

Indian players could now benefit from that experience at the DP World India Golf Championship, to be held at Delhi Golf Club from October 15 to 18. Tickets for the tournament are currently on sale and can be bought from 'District'. The event is being held under the joint aegis of the DP World Tour and the DP World PGTI, and its total prize purse is $4 million.

The event matters all the more for Indian players because they will get the chance to play against stars such as Rory McIlroy, defending champion Tommy Fleetwood, Open champion Ryan Fox, Justin Rose, Shane Lowry, Patrick Reed, Luke Donald and PGA Championship winner Aaron Rai.

Saptak Talwar's progress is particularly noteworthy. The 27-year-old has been the most consistent Indian player on this year's DP World PGTI season and is leading the Order of Merit. He made the top 10 at the Jammu and Kashmir Open, in Kolar and in Chennai, and finished in the top 15 in several events.

At the Asian Games, Talwar began with a brilliant four-under 66 and moved up to third place. He then shot a 68 and, with another 66 in the final round, finished joint sixth. It was not merely a good result. Over the four rounds he also learned an important lesson in handling the weight of expectations while playing for India. He will now go into the Delhi event with the same confidence.

Veer Ahlawat's journey is equally inspiring. The 2024 PGTI Order of Merit winner has shown consistently good form in the domestic season this year. He did not win a title, but in 12 events he finished in the top 10 nine times, and in the top 5 seven of those times. He finished third at the Telangana Open, Telangana Masters, Chennai Open and Raipur Open respectively. He then shared third place with Talwar at the Bengaluru Open.

Yuvraj Sandhu has had a different and broader experience of international golf. As the 2025 PGTI Order of Merit winner, he earned entry to the DP World Tour and spent most of this season in Europe taking on full-time golfing challenges. His season was difficult, but he still achieved an important success before the Asian Games. Bad weather meant he did not get full practice time, but he adjusted to the conditions and played tenaciously in the event.
