Indian golfer Shubhankar Sharma is ready for the DP World India Championship, which will be played at the Delhi Golf Club from October 15 to 18. The venue is special for him, as he learnt the finer points of the game on this historic course as a child. He has kept many memories of the place and first dreamt of playing on a big stage here. It will be an emotional moment for him.
Shubhankar returns to the tournament, which has a prize purse of about $4 million (roughly Rs 38.71 crore), as an established Indian international player. This year he will be seen playing alongside some of the best players in the world. "I am very excited about this world golf tournament at Delhi Golf Club," Shubhankar said. "This place is very special not just for me but for all Indian players. Many top players came here last year and they liked the experience a lot. Now the other players are also extremely keen about this tournament."
The main attraction of the tournament is Rory McIlroy, who won the Masters in both 2025 and 2026. Aaron Rai and Ryan Fox will also play. Winners of the Masters, the PGA Championship and the Open Championship will thus be seen competing in Delhi. Defending champion Tommy Fleetwood will also take the field.
Masters winner Patrick Reed, former US Open winner Justin Rose and Open winner Shane Lowry are among the other big names who will play alongside them. Shubhankar Sharma will be among them. He will have the backing of the home crowd, and as this is his home course, he is sure to benefit from it.
The season has not been easy for Shubhankar. He failed to make the cut in several tournaments, so his performance has not been as expected. Changes were made to his equipment, including new shafts in his clubs, and he took longer to adjust to them. Even so, his rhythm has not completely deserted him. At the Omega European Masters in September, Shubhankar shot an impressive 6-under 64 in the first round. Playing without a single bogey, he recalled the Shubhankar of old, who rose quickly in the DP World Tour rankings. His performance dipped a little over the weekend, but the opening 18 holes were enough to show that his ability remains intact.
