Nagpur: The Crime Branch raided two hookah parlours and took action against 12 people, including an operator. The action was carried out in Dharampeth and Gandhinagar.
The NDPS team raided a hookah parlour running at 'The Fusion Cafe' in Dharampeth, where customers were being served hookah with banned tobacco flavours. Police detained the cafe's managers, Vikrant Shinde and Shubham Vaidya, and recovered goods worth Rs 32,000. A case was registered against both at Sitabuldi police station.
In the second action, the SSB raided 9 Lounge in Gandhinagar, where 10 customers were found smoking hookah. The parlour's operator, Abhishek Jain, manager Nikhil Khobragade and employee Rupesh Wankhede were arrested, and action was also taken against the 10 customers.
The action has caused a stir among hookah parlour operators.
According to sources, drugs are also openly used along with hookah at a few places, including a well-known hotel at the VCA and a pub on Wardha Road and Medical Square. Murder and several other serious incidents have occurred at these places several times. Police are said to be quite lenient towards them, and officers break into a sweat at the thought of going there.
Crime Branch DCP Deepak Agrawal had shown courage and raided the VCA hotel three months ago. Within a few days, everything returned to normal. In the name of special drives, police always act against small players while the big fish are ignored.
