Traffic has been changed around Deekshabhoomi in Chandrapur and several city roads will remain closed for the Dhammachakra Anupravartan ceremony. District Superintendent of Police Ayush Nopani has issued the orders.
The ceremony is to be held on October 15 and 16. Followers are expected to arrive in large numbers from the district and from outside. The new traffic arrangements will therefore be in force from 8 am on October 15 to 8 am on October 17. Alternative routes and parking spaces have also been fixed for heavy vehicles.
Considering the crowds of Buddhist followers heading to Deekshabhoomi, entry of all types of vehicles will be barred in the entire area covering Pani Tanki Chowk, Juna Warora Naka to Collector Bungalow Road, the road near Hutatma Smarak, Warora Naka Chowk to Sindhi Panchayat Bhavan via Mitra Nagar Chowk, and Mitra Nagar Chowk to the District Stadium. The whole area has been declared a no-parking and no-hawkers zone. During the stipulated period, no vehicles may be parked and no hawkers may set up there.
Three routes have been fixed for heavy vehicles. All heavy vehicles coming from Nagpur to Chandrapur will, as required, go from Hotel Kundan Plaza via the CTPS road and from Nehru Nagar towards Mul Road. Heavy vehicles going from Mul to Nagpur will leave via Bengali Camp, Savarkar Chowk and the Warora Naka flyover, or go to Nagpur from Nehru Nagar via CTPS. If needed, such vehicles will be stopped at MEL Naka, Savarkar Chowk and the Warora Naka flyover. Heavy vehicles going from Ballarshah to Nagpur will go via Bengali Camp and from Nehru Nagar via CTPS, or, depending on the crowd of followers on the Deekshabhoomi route, will be stopped at the DRC bunker in Bengali Camp on the bypass road.
For two-wheelers and light four-wheelers, the road from Juna Warora Naka Chowk to Ambedkar College, Mitra Nagar Chowk and the TB Hospital will be closed to all vehicles, including bicycles. The road through Pani Tanki, the rest house and Juna Warora Naka has also been closed from both sides to all vehicles, including bicycles. Vehicles coming into the city from the Nagpur side, other than heavy vehicles, will enter via Warora Naka, the flyover, Siddharth Hotel, the bus stand and Priyadarshani Chowk.
Residents of Ramnagar, Mitra Nagar, Akashvani, Snehnagar and Wadgaon, except heavy vehicles, will take their vehicles via the alternative route of Pani Tanki, Dawa Bazaar, Sant Kewalram Chowk and Datala Road. Drivers going from Jatpura Gate to Juna Warora Naka via Ramnagar will go towards Nagpur via Pani Tanki, Priyadarshani Chowk, the bus stand, Siddharth Hotel and the flyover. People living between Deekshabhoomi and Sant Kewalram Chowk have been asked not to park vehicles by the roadside but to keep them in the declared parking areas.
The area from ITI College to the District Stadium, and the stretch from the road to the right of the Warora Naka dargah to Puttewar Hospital, Bukawar Hospital, and from Warora Naka to Pink Planet, has also been declared a no-parking and no-hawkers zone.
Parking has been arranged for those attending the ceremony. Vehicles coming from Nagpur Road can park at Shakuntala Lawn and the ground in front of Janata College (Idgah ground). Vehicles coming from the city can use the St Michael School ground and the ground near Sindhi Panchayat Bhavan. For those coming from Wadgaon, Akashvani and nearby areas, Lokmanya Tilak High School near the District Stadium has been designated. Followers coming from Mul Road, Bengali Camp and Tukum should park motorcycles at the travels stand near Krishi Bhavan and four-wheelers at the other parking spots mentioned above.
The notification will remain in force from 8 am on October 15 to 8 am on October 17. It may be modified as required during implementation. The police department has appealed to all Buddhist followers and the general public attending the ceremony to follow the traffic arrangements, park vehicles only in the declared parking areas and cooperate with the police in maintaining peace and order.
