Police in Chandrapur district have imposed special restrictions to maintain law and order and public peace during the coming festival season. The orders have been issued in view of Ganpati, Navratri, Dandiya, Dussehra and Dhammachakra Pravartan Din.

Chandrapur Superintendent of Police Ayush Nopani issued the restriction and prohibitory orders under Sections 36 and 38(1) of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951. The aim is to safeguard citizens' health during processions and events held for the installation and immersion of Ganpati idols, Navratri, Dandiya, Dussehra and Dhammachakra Pravartan Din.

The orders will remain in force across the district from midnight on September 29, 2026, to midnight on October 30, 2026.

Laser lights, high-intensity flash lights and all lighting systems that harm human eyes and health are completely banned in processions. Police officers or the competent authority can inspect and check the lighting equipment in processions. If found dangerous, it will be ordered switched off immediately.

Strict rules also apply to sound. Loudspeakers or amplifiers cannot be used in any public place without prior permission from the competent authority. DJs, plasma systems, modified sound equipment, woofers and subwoofers that produce extremely loud and harmful sound are completely banned.

Decibel limits have been set by area, keeping citizens' health in mind. In industrial areas the limit is 75 decibels by day and 70 at night. In commercial areas it is 65 by day and 55 at night, and in residential areas 55 by day and 45 at night. In silence zones such as hospitals, educational institutions and courts, the limit is 50 decibels by day and 40 at night, and it must be strictly followed.

Except on days and times exempted by the District Magistrate, the use of loudspeakers and DJs is completely prohibited from 10 pm to 6 am.

Police will take strict legal action against violators. Under Section 70 of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951, the sound and lighting systems or equipment concerned will be seized. Festival organisers, DJ operators or vehicle drivers can be arrested without a warrant under Section 72(2), and will also be prosecuted in court under Sections 134 and 136.

Chandrapur Police have appealed to citizens, festival committees and organisers to cooperate fully so that all festivals are celebrated peacefully, safely and with enthusiasm.
