The State Common Entrance Test Cell will take legal action against operators of social media accounts that spread misleading information, and has served a notice on a YouTube channel.

Pune: The State Common Entrance Test Cell, or CET Cell, conducts entrance examinations and the admission process for various professional undergraduate and postgraduate courses. It has now decided to get tough on those spreading false information on social media.

The Cell has noticed that in recent days misleading, incomplete and false information or claims have repeatedly been put out about its entrance examinations, the examination schedule, the results and the centralised admission process. Such material confuses students and also damages the image of the CET Cell.

The Cell has therefore decided to keep watch. Legal action will be taken against those running accounts that spread false information on social media platforms such as X, Facebook, YouTube and WhatsApp.

The CET Cell has set up a task force for the purpose. The task force will monitor social media and take legal action against those spreading false or misleading information.

The Cell has also appealed to students and parents. If they come across any false information, post, reel, podcast, video or objectionable content related to the CET on social media, they should report it. Whether the claim is about getting the examination centre changed or getting percentile marks raised, such complaints are to be sent to the email address socialmedia.complaints@mahacet.org. The Cell will verify the complaint, after which legal action will follow.

A notice has already been served on a YouTuber. A YouTuber named Shiva, on a YouTube channel called Digital Master, had given in a podcast the dates of both MHT CET 2027 examinations, the application registration dates for them and the dates of the results. This confused students and parents, and complaints about it reached the CET Cell.

The Cell says it has not yet announced the dates of the 2027 entrance examinations. A legal notice has therefore been sent to the Digital Master YouTube channel. The notice asks that the video be removed from YouTube immediately. It also directs the channel to broadcast a clarification on this and to submit a written clarification, with evidence, to the CET Cell.
