Nagpur: 18-year-old schoolboy arrested for rape after attempt to induce minor's abortion using YouTube video

Police in Nagpur have arrested an 18-year-old schoolboy and registered a rape case against him after an attempt to terminate a minor girl's pregnancy, made by following videos watched on YouTube.

According to the information available, a mixture of medicinal herbs was prepared after watching YouTube videos and given to the girl to drink in an attempt to induce an abortion. The attempt failed.

The 16-year-old girl's health then deteriorated. She subsequently gave birth to a child at home, and the matter came to light after that.

The accused has been formally arrested, not merely detained. The allegations against him are under investigation. The accused and the girl studied at the same school.

The Pachpaoli police are investigating the case further and have begun follow-up action after registering the rape case.

As the law bars disclosure of a victim's identity in such cases, no further details about her are being given.
