Central Railway earns Rs 4,117.07 crore from freight in April-September, Nagpur division leads
Central Railway loaded 41.10 million tonnes in six months, about 10 per cent more than a year ago, with Nagpur division accounting for 59 per cent.

Central Railway had a good first half of the financial year 2026-27 in freight. In the six months from April to September 2026, goods transport earned the railway Rs 4,117.07 crore in revenue.
During this period Central Railway moved 41.10 million tonnes of goods in 15,652 rakes. In the same period last year, 37.37 million tonnes were carried in 14,625 rakes. Freight volume thus rose by about 10 per cent and revenue by more than 6 per cent.
Among the divisions, Nagpur led. The Nagpur division moved 24.26 million tonnes of goods, about 59 per cent of Central Railway's total loading. The Mumbai division was second with 10.14 million tonnes.
Nagpur division was also first in revenue. It earned Rs 2,462.27 crore, which is 59.80 per cent of the total. The Mumbai division earned Rs 963.34 crore.
In commodity-wise figures, coal remained the biggest mainstay of Central Railway's freight and revenue. Between April and September, 20.19 million tonnes of coal were carried in 5,127 rakes, bringing in Rs 1,852.90 crore. Container traffic earned Rs 494.45 crore, petroleum products Rs 373.31 crore and cement Rs 239.28 crore.
Automobile loading also improved. In this period vehicles were carried in 551 rakes, against 437 rakes in the same period last year, an increase of 114 rakes.
September 2026 was a special month for Central Railway. The railway recorded its highest September freight loading in the past 10 years, at 6.59 million tonnes, for which 2,601 rakes were run. In September 2025, 5.27 million tonnes were carried in 2,333 rakes. Freight loading thus rose by more than 25 per cent, with 268 additional rakes run.
Freight earned Rs 655.15 crore in September, against Rs 527.55 crore in the same month last year, an increase of more than 24 per cent. In the month, the Nagpur division loaded 3.94 million tonnes and earned Rs 389.55 crore.
In September, 836 rakes were run for coal, 384 more than last year. Loading of automobiles, iron ore and clinker also increased. Automobiles were sent for the first time from Loni in Maharashtra to Farrukhnagar in Haryana, earning Rs 73 lakh. Excavator loading with two rakes at Kalamboli and container loading with two rakes at the Miraj goods shed were also resumed.
