Central Railway tops Indian Railways with Rs 323.50 crore from scrap sales in April-September
Under the Zero Scrap Mission, Central Railway ranked first among all Indian Railways zones, with Nagpur division contributing Rs 46.08 crore.
Central Railway has taken first place among all zones of Indian Railways in scrap disposal under the Zero Scrap Mission. In the first half of 2026-27, from April to September, it recorded scrap sales of Rs 323.50 crore.
Nagpur division contributed Rs 46.08 crore. Besides selling scrap, Central Railway has also stressed better use of railway land, cleanliness and disposal of unwanted material.
September 2026 was a special month for Central Railway. Scrap worth Rs 70.42 crore was sold in that month alone, the highest figure for any single month in the zone's history. The stores department ran a special campaign during the Swachhata Hi Seva fortnight.
In the campaign, 4,884 metric tonnes of scrap were disposed of, earning Rs 44.24 crore in revenue. This largely cleared the problem of unusable material lying at various railway locations.
Several divisions made significant contributions to the total of Rs 323.50 crore. Bhusawal division contributed the most at Rs 57.27 crore, followed by Mumbai division with Rs 52.08 crore, Pune division with Rs 47.55 crore and Nagpur division with Rs 46.08 crore. Solapur division's share was Rs 14.69 crore.
The campaign has not been limited to scrap sales. Central Railway also successfully disposed of 46.85 metric tonnes of unusable e-waste worth Rs 1.11 crore. In the six months, 29,993 metric tonnes of rails and related material, 23 locomotives, 62 coaches and 70 wagons were also disposed of.
The process freed valuable land in yards, workshops and alongside railway tracks. The Zero Scrap Mission has thus earned the railway revenue and also promoted cleanliness, proper use of land and eco-friendly management.
