Passengers planning to catch a train from Nagpur in late November or December should check the schedule first. Remodelling work is due at the Jharsuguda passenger yard, which falls under the Chakradharpur division of South Eastern Railway, and it will affect the running and movement of several trains.
The work will be done in three phases. First, pre-non-interlocking work will run for 18 days, from November 27 to December 14. Ten hours of non-interlocking work will follow on December 15. Finally, two days of post-NI interlocking work are proposed on December 16 and 17, for which a mega block will be taken.
Because of this infrastructure work, the operation of several trains will have to change. Some trains will be cancelled, while the routes and timings of others may also change.
The effect of the work at Jharsuguda will reach several major trains passing through the Nagpur division of Central Railway. Some of these services will not run on the specified dates, so passengers may face inconvenience. With long-distance trains affected, the journeys of thousands of passengers could be disrupted.
Railways has advised passengers to check the running status and schedule of their train before leaving, so that they do not reach the station only to find the train cancelled.
This is a period of festival travel and heavy crowds. If trains are cancelled, passengers may have to arrange another train or some other means of travel. It would therefore be wise to check tickets in advance and plan accordingly.
Railways has released a date-wise list of the affected trains. The list will make clear which train is affected on which day, and passengers can plan their journeys accordingly.
