Bihar woman, 38, befriended on Instagram, turns up at 18-year-old's home in Lakhimpur Kheri

A case from Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh is drawing attention in the area. A 38-year-old married woman from Bihar became friends on Instagram with an 18-year-old youth from Lakhimpur Kheri. After a few months of friendship, the two entered into a relationship.

The woman's husband is a labourer. They have been married for 15 years and have three children. The woman used to make and post videos on social media. The family had moved to Sonipat. For about seven months, through her social media activity, she had been friends with the youth from Lakhimpur, who worked for a private company in Sonipat. The woman had told the youth nothing about her children.

Three months ago, the woman left her husband and children, travelled from Bihar to Sonipat and began living with the youth. In Sonipat she then began talking to other young men on the phone. The two quarrelled over this. Angry, the youth went back from Sonipat to his home in Lakhimpur. Four days ago, the woman followed him there.

When the youth's family learnt of the matter, they called respected people of the village and held a panchayat. The village head then informed the woman's husband. On receiving the news, the husband brought the children with him to Lakhimpur Kheri. The matter also reached the police.

The husband repeatedly urged the woman to return, citing the children. But she flatly refused and insisted on staying with the youth. In the end, the husband gave up and returned to Bihar with the children. The decision of the mother of three has become a talking point across the area.
