Actor Sunil Lahri, who became a household name playing Lakshman in Ramanand Sagar's popular serial 'Ramayan', is in the news for a statement. A video of his is going viral on social media, in which he asks countrymen to be cautious about the time ahead.

Sharing the video, Lahri expressed concern about the coming days. He says the effects of El Nino may be felt because of changes in the weather, and these could affect drought, water scarcity and the availability of foodgrain.

In the video, Lahri says: "Namaskar friends, one word is being talked about a lot these days: 'El Nino'. It relates to changes in nature, the weather and the environment. Because of El Nino, the world, especially Asian countries and our country too, may face major crises."

He goes on to say that a change in the weather could push temperatures up sharply, raising the risk of a water problem. Crops could be damaged and the availability of fertiliser could also be affected. He also pointed out that India depends on other countries for certain things such as fertiliser, oil and fuel.

Lahri told people to start saving everyday items now, without waiting for a crisis to arrive. He advised cutting back to some extent on food, oil, petrol and diesel. He says everyone should think about their own consumption and try to reduce their use of daily necessities by about 15 to 20 per cent.

Explaining why saving matters, he said: "Even if we have money, we can do nothing with it, because if we do not have the things themselves, what will we do with them?" He said the time had come to gradually conserve the available resources.

Referring to the Covid pandemic, Lahri says: "We are very sensible. Indians have a habit of saving. We are also used to fighting crises. During Covid-19 we held on without stopping. In the same way, I am confident that we will triumph over this crisis too."

Lahri made clear that the video is not meant to frighten people, but to make citizens cautious in time. Giving an example, he says: "A well is not dug to put out a fire; a well is dug beforehand keeping in mind the possibility of a fire."

In his post on X as well, he wrote that the time ahead could be full of calamities and that everyone should be ready to fight it together. His message is that facing a crisis will be much easier if people prepare before it arrives.
