A couple drowned in a canal in Korambhi village of Pavani taluka in Bhandara district, after the husband jumped in to save his wife who had fallen into the water.

The deceased have been identified as Swapnil Bankar and Pragya Bankar. The incident has plunged Korambhi village into mourning, and people in the surrounding area are also deeply saddened.

According to the information available, the couple lived in Nagpur and had come to their native village, Korambhi. While returning from the farm, Pragya went to the canal steps to wash her feet. Her foot suddenly slipped and she fell into deep water.

On realising that his wife had fallen in, Swapnil did not hesitate for a moment and jumped straight into the canal to save her. However, the depth of the water and the strong current made the situation serious, and Swapnil, too, could not get out of the water.

Both Swapnil and Pragya died by drowning in the incident. The husband's attempt to save his wife ultimately failed. The deaths of both husband and wife at the same time have left the family devastated.

As soon as news of the accident came, a pall of gloom descended on Korambhi village. The incident, which happened in a single moment, has left the whole village grieving.

The incident has once again underlined that people need to take special care when going near canals, rivers and other water bodies.
