Applications open for Sainik School admission in Classes 6 and 9, last date December 2

Parents who want to enrol their children in a Sainik School can now begin filling in applications. Registration for the All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination (AISSEE) 2027 began on November 3, 2026. Last year the process began on October 10, so applications have opened roughly a month later this time.

Students seeking admission to Class 6 and Class 9 in Sainik Schools across the country can apply on the official NTA AISSEE 2027 website (exams.nta.nic.in/sainik-school-society). The last date to apply is December 2, 2026.

The examination will fill Class 6 and Class 9 seats in 33 major Sainik Schools across the country. Admission will also be available at Class 6 level in 80 new Sainik Schools and at Class 9 level in 40 new Sainik Schools approved by the Ministry of Defence.

The examination will be held on January 31, 2027, and the result will be announced four to six weeks after the examination. The exact date of the examination will be issued later.

The age criteria are as follows. For Class 6, the student must be between 10 and 12 years old on March 31, 2027. Both boys and girls can apply. For Class 9, the student must be between 13 and 15 years old on March 31, 2027, and must have passed Class 8 from a recognised school by the time of admission. Both boys and girls are eligible for Class 9 as well.

The application fee varies by category. Candidates in the General, OBC, Defence and Ex-Servicemen categories must pay Rs 850. For the SC and ST categories, the fee is Rs 700.

Admission to the new Sainik Schools will be in two categories. For Class 6, Category A (40% route) is open to girls, and the age criteria are the same as for boys. Candidates should check the website of the concerned new Sainik School for the number of seats for girls. Category B (60% route) is also open to girls. For this, the candidate must have passed Class 5 in that new Sainik School by March 31, 2027, or be studying in Class 5 there. For this 60% route, the student must also already be enrolled in the concerned approved new Sainik School.

For Class 9 (new Sainik Schools), admission under Category A (40% route) is only for boys and girls who have passed Class 8 in the Sainik School vertical. Admission under Category B (60% route) is limited to the vacant seats not filled under the 40% route.

The key dates are as follows. The online application can be filled from November 3, 2026 to December 2, 2026 (until 11:50 pm). The last date for paying the regular fee is also December 2, 2026 (until 11:50 pm). Applications and fees with a late fee of Rs 500 can be submitted from December 3, 2026 to December 6, 2026 (until 11:50 pm).
