Concreting work on the Alibag-Roha route has been going on for the past year. Now a section of the road built earlier on the same route has to be broken up and concreted afresh. A concrete road was built through MSIDC on the Bypass-to-Sahan and Bypass-to-Nagaon stretches. As some parts have deteriorated, those patches are being broken up and rebuilt. Residents who use the route daily are repeatedly suffering traffic jams and the inconvenience of ongoing repair work.

Work on the concrete road from Bypass to Sahan and on to Nagaon began last year. Traffic jams were frequent on the route while the work was on. Commuters nevertheless put up with the trouble, hoping the road would turn out well. But within just seven to eight months, parts of the road were seen to have deteriorated.

About a month ago, a damaged patch between Sahan-Mothi Gaon and the Bypass was broken up and concreted again. However, there are complaints that the level of the newly laid section is also not right. Commuters say the road at that spot is still in poor condition. Work is now under way to break up a damaged patch between the Bypass and Dhavar and lay fresh concrete there. In other words, a road built a year ago has had to be broken up and rebuilt.

The work is carried out in the dark of night and completed by morning. This has also raised questions about the way the work is being done.

While large sums are being spent on concreting the road, it has deteriorated within a few months and has to be dug up again. Citizens are therefore questioning the quality of the work. Commuters are also asking how long the newly laid concrete will last.

The continuous work disrupts traffic and causes needless hardship to motorists and commuters. A demand is growing that the department concerned inspect the site, check the quality of the work and fix responsibility if the work is found to be substandard.

Commuters have also raised a few questions. They are asking why a road built a year ago had to be broken up again, what shortcomings remained in the road work, and whether the fresh work now under way is of good quality. Commuters want the district administration to inquire into all of this and make the facts clear.
