A snake came out of a tap along with water in Neral village in Karjat taluka of Raigad district, raising questions over the Neral gram panchayat's water supply and alarming residents. Neral is regarded as the wealthiest gram panchayat in Karjat taluka.
The incident took place in the Samrat Nagar area of Neral. This morning, a snake came out with tap water at the house of Ashok Gopinath Jadhav. The women of the house were frightened when they saw the snake moving about in the water. The snake was swimming around in the water in Jadhav's house without any fear. Ashok Jadhav filmed the snake in the water and the video went viral.
When the gram panchayat was informed about the snake, it immediately sent plumbers from its office to the spot. They are checking whether a water main is broken anywhere in the area and whether the snake entered the pipeline through a broken main.
Gram panchayat officer Arun Karle said the panchayat supplies water only after cleaning it at its water treatment plant. According to him, such a problem can arise if the pipeline is leaking somewhere in the area. Karle also said plumbers were sent immediately after local resident and senior worker Siddharth Sadavarte contacted the panchayat. The inquiry is on, and efforts are under way to find out how the snake came with the water.
Despite Neral having a tap water scheme with a water treatment plant, cases of dirty and contaminated water continue. Dirty water was supplied in the village this very September, and with a snake now coming out of a tap, people are asking whether their health is being toyed with. The administrator's rule in the Neral gram panchayat has been in the news for various reasons from the start.
Neral is a village with a junction station on the Central Railway. Urbanisation has taken place here on a large scale over the past 30 years, and the village has now become town-like. The Ulhas river flows a short distance from the village, and a good tap water scheme is run from it. The population of Neral grew because of its clean water. Now the same water is the subject of talk among residents, and all eyes are on what the gram panchayat's inquiry finds as the reason for the snake's arrival.
