Ajay Purkar, who has made a distinct mark with his acting in Marathi films, will now be seen in a new role. This time he is taking charge of direction rather than acting. The poster and trailer of his upcoming Marathi suspense-thriller 'Case No. 99' were released recently, raising audience curiosity about the film.
The film marks Purkar's first step into direction. Sai Ajay Purkar is also with him in directing the film. Having gained experience as an actor, he is now trying to tell stories through direction, so the film could be an important milestone in his career.
Chinmay Mandlekar and Mrunmayee Deshpande play key roles alongside Purkar. Their presence has raised audience expectations further. Which character each of them plays remains a secret for now.
The story begins with an unexpected incident. A death raises several questions: what really happened, who is behind it, and whether the truth that appears on the surface is the whole truth. As the answers are sought, the direction of the investigation keeps changing and the matter grows more tangled.
The trailer shows the search in the case under way, with new secrets about to be revealed. As the investigation advances, so does suspicion. The trailer suggests that something different may lie behind every event, giving viewers a chance to guess what comes next.
The story is not only about the hunt for a crime, but also about the struggle to reach the truth. What appears in a case cannot be trusted at once, and in seeking answers to some questions, new doubts arise. The trailer suggests this is the film's central premise.
Viewers will not have to wait long. The world digital premiere of 'Case No. 99' will be on the Ultra Jhakaas Marathi OTT platform on October 16, 2026, so viewers can watch the suspense-thriller at home. The film could appeal to those who like mystery, investigation and unexpected turns.
Who will fall under suspicion and what the real cause of the death is can be known only by watching the film. The makers have not shared much about the story, so the mystery remains. How audiences take to Purkar's direction and the truth hidden in the story will be clear only after release.
