Abhishek Sharma has set a world record by reaching 2,000 runs in T20 Internationals in the fewest balls, overtaking Suryakumar Yadav, during the third match of the five-match T20 series between India and the West Indies at Holkar Stadium in Indore.
West Indies captain Shai Hope won the toss and chose to bowl first. India's innings was opened by Abhishek and Sanju Samson.
Abhishek scored a half-century in only 18 balls and was dismissed for 69 off 30 balls. Shamar Springer sent him back to the pavilion. Before getting out, however, he had already made history in international T20 cricket.
The record came as soon as he completed his 33rd run. He reached the 2,000-run mark in 1,024 balls, the first batter in the world to get there in the fewest balls.
With this he also broke Suryakumar Yadav's record. Suryakumar had earlier held it, having completed 2,000 international T20 runs in 1,164 balls.
