A 33-year-old woman and her six-year-old son died after jumping from the 18th floor of a building in the Signature Park society in the Dange Chowk area of Pimpri-Chinchwad. The woman has been identified as Ekta.

The incident took place on Friday, the 30th, at around 6.30 pm. Wakad police reached the spot as soon as they were informed. According to police, both mother and son fell from the 18th floor. Police are conducting a panchnama of the spot with the help of a forensic team. The inquiry has found that the two jumped from the top of the building.

Police have also recovered a note written by the woman, said to run to seven or eight pages. In it, Ekta expressed love for her husband, Manoj. She wrote that after she was gone, he should marry again and set up a home once more.

The note also refers to her illness. Ekta had been suffering from a spinal ailment for several years. Despite treatment at several hospitals, the cause of her illness could not be found. She cited this suffering in the note.

The note also expresses concern about her son's future. She wrote about how he would manage without her. It is understood that she also wrote that, after she was gone, the boy would keep asking about his mother, and that this fear led her to decide to take him with her. She also feared that a young child living with him could make a second marriage difficult for her husband. Police are looking into what the note says.

Police examined the society's CCTV footage. It shows Ekta going up to the 18th floor in the lift with her son. Both their slippers were found near the gallery on the 18th floor. At first glance, therefore, it appears that Ekta jumped with her son of her own accord.

According to Wakad police, Ekta was a homemaker. Her husband works as an engineer at an IT company in Yerawada. The family is originally from Rajasthan and had been living in the society for the past two years.

An accidental death entry has been registered at Wakad police station, and police are investigating further. The death of a mother along with her six-year-old son has cast a pall of grief over the whole of Pimpri-Chinchwad.
