A 33-year-old woman and her six-year-old son died after falling from the 18th floor of a society near Dange Chowk; Wakad police are investigating.

A mother and her six-year-old son died after falling from the 18th floor of a building in the Dange Chowk area of Pimpri-Chinchwad on the evening of Friday, the 30th. The incident took place at Signature Park society near Dange Chowk at around 6.30 pm.

The woman has been identified as Ekta Bhangad, 33, a homemaker. Her husband is an engineer with an IT company in Yerawada. According to Wakad police, the family is originally from Rajasthan and had been living in the society for the past two years.

Wakad police reached the spot on receiving information. With the help of a forensic team, they began a panchnama of the site. Police found that both mother and son had fallen from the 18th floor. Wakad police are conducting further investigation.

Police examined the building's CCTV footage. It shows Ekta taking her son up to the 18th floor in the lift. Both their slippers have been found near the gallery on the 18th floor. On this basis, it appears at first glance that Ekta jumped with her son.

Police have also recovered a note written by the woman, which reportedly records her feelings. According to the note, she wrote that after she was gone, her husband should marry again and start his life afresh. She also wrote of her concern for her son's future and of how he would manage without her.

The note is understood to say that, in her absence, the boy would keep asking for his mother, and that out of this fear she decided to take him along. It is also said she feared that having a young child with him could make it difficult for her husband to remarry. Police are now looking into what the note says.

Vitthal Salunkhe, senior police inspector at Wakad police station, gave details. He said: "In the suicide note, the woman has written that she was fed up with her illness and had taken this step for that reason. She has also written that the child would miss her after she was gone, so she was taking him along." Wakad police are investigating the case.
