Indus International School, Pune, is in Bhukum in Pune's Mulshi taluka. It is a school of the International Baccalaureate (IB) board. Parents choosing an international school have to ask questions that do not arise when choosing an ordinary CBSE or ICSE school. Along with the syllabus, they must consider how much independence is expected of the child, how learning is assessed, what happens in the final years, and whether the IB approach suits the child. The school's details have been checked against recorded documents rather than rankings.

The school's address is No. 576, Bhukum, Taluka Mulshi, District Pune, Maharashtra 412115. It is a day-cum-boarding school for boys and girls, running from the reception or foundation stage to Grade 12. According to the school's current fact sheet, the campus covers 36 acres, with more than 1,100 students and more than 108 teachers, and classes of 25 children. The school began on August 21, 2008. According to the IB's own directory, it has been authorised as an IB World School since February 18, 2011.

The school's biggest point is that it offers the full IB continuum: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), Diploma Programme (DP) and IB Career-related Programme (IBCP). According to the school's FAQ, these cover children from about age 3 to 18. A child therefore does not have to change syllabus midway.

The PYP is for children aged about 3 to 11. The school describes it as inquiry-based and transdisciplinary, with children taking an active part in their own learning. The aim is not merely to complete a list of subjects but to spark curiosity and link different fields. On a visit, parents can ask for samples of inquiry projects, student portfolios, classroom documentation, presentations and reflections.

The MYP runs from Grade 6 to 10. According to the school, children learn to manage their own learning and connect classroom study with the world outside. It includes a personal project. Subjects include language and literature, language acquisition, individuals and societies, sciences, mathematics, arts, design, and physical and health education. Options such as physics, chemistry, biology, history, geography, music, visual arts and digital design have also been published.

For Grades 11 and 12 the school runs the two-year IB Diploma Programme. In the languages group it offers English A, English B, Hindi B, French, German and Spanish. The societies group has business management, economics, history, psychology, geography, digital society, and environmental systems and societies. Sciences include physics, chemistry, biology and computer science, and there are two types of mathematics course. Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) are compulsory. This is quite different from the science-commerce-arts structure of many Indian schools.

The IBCP is a distinctive feature of the school. According to the school, its career-related study is business administration. Selected IB Diploma subjects are combined with an internship and a capstone project. Parents should ask whether this suits their child's interests and university plans, and where students usually go afterwards.

The school describes its teaching as built around experiential and transformative learning. This means the classroom will differ from one fully controlled by the teacher. Children will face inquiry, research, discussion, projects and self-directed learning. The real question is whether the child enjoys and benefits from this kind of participation. Outside the classroom there are also an innovation curriculum, a startup school, house visions, community service projects, inter-school tournaments and inter-house contests. Parents can look at what children actually build through these.

According to the school's current material, AI is included in shared learning, design thinking, research and group discussion. Senior IB also has computer science and digital society. But using AI as a learning tool is not the same as teaching AI as a separate subject. Parents can ask from which grade AI begins, how much coding is taught, and whether children learn to evaluate information obtained from AI.

On the startup school, the school says children can begin work on business ideas through guidance from industry experts and online internships. The school's stated aim is to produce "life entrepreneurs" through holistic education and lifelong learning. Community service is part of the school's whole-education framework and is also part of the DP as CAS. The school also says it values sport, art, craft, music, dance and drama.

Inclusive education is among the school's strongest documented aspects. According to the school, its aim is to give children with different needs equal access to the curriculum. There are arrangements for classroom support, remediation and inclusive access, and a team of inclusive educators across the PYP, MYP, DP and CP. Parents of children needing extra help should ask directly how needs are identified, how an individual education plan is made, and what examination accommodations are available.

On student wellbeing, the school stresses character, discipline, reflection and responsibility. But a philosophy of wellbeing and an actual counselling system are different things. Parents should confirm by asking about the number and qualifications of counsellors, the counsellor-student ratio, confidentiality and boarding care. In the senior years there is a special emphasis on university guidance. According to IBCP material, this includes university research, visits, help with applications, SAT/ACT/TOEFL/IELTS preparation and résumés.

According to the school, more than 350 students are boarders. Boarding makes it different from most Pune schools. Families choosing boarding should separately ask about house size, the house-parent arrangement, medical support, study hours, screen policy and communication with parents.

On fees, the school has not given a clear grade-wise fee table for 2026-27 on the pages reviewed. Third-party websites estimate roughly Rs 3.5 lakh to Rs 9 lakh depending on grade, but these should not be treated as the school's official fees. Parents should ask for a full written breakdown of admission fee, tuition, annual charges, boarding, meals, transport, books, uniform and refundable deposit. For boarding families, tuition and total annual cost can differ considerably.

According to the school's current admission material, admissions are open for the 2026-27 session, especially for the IBDP and IBCP. According to the FAQ, places are available from Foundation Stage 1 to Grade 12, and boarding is available. The school says its students come from more than 30 countries and that alumni are studying at universities in the US, UK, Canada, the Netherlands, the UAE, Australia, China, Japan, Korea, Switzerland, Singapore and India. But having children from different countries and every child actually getting an international experience are two different things.

Class size and teacher figures are the school's own and have not been independently audited, so they should be treated as school-reported. Current fees, boarding fees, counsellor staff, sports facilities, the grade-wise AI curriculum, transport, results and university placement figures must be confirmed directly with the school. The bottom line is that the question should not be "is Indus a good school" but "are the IB approach, its way of assessment and its independence right for the child".
