Amanora Township in Hadapsar wins CII environment award at Chennai ceremony
Amanora Township, Hadapsar, has received the Excellent Environment Practice Award 2026 from the Confederation of Indian Industry at a national awards event in Chennai.
Pune, October 22, 2026: Amanora Township in Hadapsar has been given the Excellent Environment Practice Award 2026 by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The award was presented at the 13th edition of the National Awards for Environmental Best Practices 2026 in Chennai. Amol Borate and Amit Saste from the Amanora team received it.
At the Chennai ceremony, the award was received on behalf of Amanora by Amitkumar Saste, general manager of its environment department.
The award carries added weight because the competition was large. More than 125 companies and more than 300 projects took part. Tata Steel, GMR Hyderabad, Tata Autocomp and Kirloskar were among the big names in the fray.
The award recognises Amanora's sustained effort to build and maintain its integrated township with environmental responsibility, efficient use of resources and sustainable methods. It also acknowledges Amanora's long-term approach of linking urban development with saving resources, cutting waste and environmental responsibility.
For years, Amanora's environment department has been running several initiatives on proper waste disposal, water conservation, renewable energy, greenery and new environmental practices.
The township handles about 15,000 kg of solid waste every day. Waste is segregated at source, then treated and recycled so that as little as possible goes to landfill. Mechanical composting was introduced so that wet waste is put to use rather than thrown away. In the same vein, the township's biogas plant now converts 5,000 kg of organic waste into energy every day, reinforcing the principle of the circular economy.
For water conservation and reuse, there are three sewage treatment plants run on solar energy. They treat about 4.8 million litres of water a day, which reduces dependence on fresh water and promotes responsible use of water.
Amanora's commitment is also visible in its greenery. The township has medicinal gardens, organic plots and central greens. Algae trees were also installed across the township in 2026. These are designed to absorb about 1.5 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year and produce 1.2 tonnes of oxygen. This adds a new element to the effort to tackle environmental challenges.
